One Step Away By Jason Taylor

The MLB season is a long and tiresome journey full of hard work, heartbreaks and storybook endings. However, eventually all journey’s come to an end. The 2020 journey was one unlike any other. But at last we have arrived at the final weekend, and the Miami Marlins are one step away from shocking the entire baseball world.

Tonight the Miami Marlins take a trip to the city that never sleeps to play one last series against the New York Yankees. For the Yankees the game means nothing as they have already cemented their place in the playoffs. The Marlins sit at 28-28 just one game in front of the Philadelphia Phillies who travel to St. Augustine to play the Tampa Bay Rays. With a Marlins win and a Phillies loss tonight, fish fans will see something that they have not seen in 17 long years.

17 years ago the Marlins beat the Yankees in the 2003 World Series and since that sweet October day the Marlins have yet to return to the playoffs. The Marlins will send All Star pitcher Sandy Alcantara to the mound tasking him with shutting down a very powerful Yankee offense. But if Alcantara can succeed tonight he will open a door to an unfamiliar place and after 17 long, very long years the Miami Marlins will play October baseball because tonight they stand just one step away.
