Mattingly Manager of the Year By Jason Taylor

Theathletic.com Not a single soul connected to baseball can argue that Don Mattingly is the 2020 manager of the year. All due respect to the other managers who led their teams to great records and deep playoff runs like Dave Roberts of the Dodgers and Jayce Tingler of the Padres but neither of them could do what Mattingly did. The 2020 Miami Marlins were destined for their 11th straight losing season especially after a COVID outbreak, 174 roster moves, injuries, a difficult schedule and overall just a subpar team. Some people will call it luck or a one year wonder but those are just angry fans who saw their teams get beat this year. Mattingly led his team of young undeveloped players to the playoffs by simply letting them play baseball. He let his speedsters steal bases not worried if they were going to be thrown out. Photo taken by Mrs. Benfatti On a whim Freshman year, now Junior Sarah Leppard joined field hockey and has been a contributor to the team since then. The Jefferson Township Field Hockey team has started off this year's season with a 2-0 record. This past week their record has fallen to 3-2 but Leppard is confident the team will finish successfully. Last season, Leppard was a part of the team that won their conference. They were the first field hockey team in Jefferson to ever take home the title. “Coming off last season as conference champs has added extra pressure and excitement to this season,” Leppard said when asked how the win has affected this season. In a regular season, field hockey practices begin in early August. Corona, however, delayed practices to September 14th which has proven challenging with so much practice time ...

She is one of the strongest defense players but during one of the most recent games, she got hit in the eye with a ball and immediately had to be taken off the field. This interview was taken over the phone because of the Covid-19. Jemela Selimi is a starter of three years for the field hockey team and has had a very solid four years experience playing for the JTHS field hockey team. During a tough game against Hackettstown, the Falcons were defending their goal, they had all of their sticks down waiting for a girl on the opposing team to take her free hit. Seeing her winding up for a big hit and BOOM. The ball goes flying straight at Selimi’s face like a bat out of hell. She immediately puts her hand up to her face and everyone can see she scrunches her face like she is in immense pain.
