Mike Gould is a Senior at Jefferson Township High School. Gould is the starting running back for the Varsity football team and is determined to bring home a state championship. I interviewed Gould on Friday, October 2nd, about the season opener against West Milford.

Gould got named the starting running back and Captain of the 2020 football season. After being named Captain, Gould said, “The way that I am going to act like a leader is to continue to do what I have been doing, and be a vocal leader for the whole team.” This is the third straight year that Gould has been a Captain - he led the Falcons to the playoffs the previous two years.

Due to Covid-19 the 2020 season has started very differently but the Falcons have a new game plan and are still planning on improving. Gould said, “This year has been a lot different due to Covid but we still did the basics of watching film, running over plays and having team meetings. We are looking to keep getting better.” The team has google meat meetings to prepare for the upcoming games.

After falling short last year in the playoffs in the first game, the Falcons have a new game plan to advance farther to win the State Championship. Gould stated, “This year we have a new game plan to advance farther into the playoffs. We need to score more points on offense and the defense needs to continue what they have been doing such as turnovers and getting the offense back on the field quickly.”

Gould and the Falcons have a big game against West Milford tonight and he helped explain how they will beat them for the second straight year. “The way that we are going to defeat West Milford for the second straight year, is by shutting down the run game, keeping momentum and we are going to have to run the ball a lot.”

Gould is a nominee for the Heart of a the Giant award. He is a nominee because he has relentless work ethic and unmatched love for the game. Gould and the Falcons look to defeat West Milford for the second straight year and start the season off with a win.
