KEEPING UP WITH BRYN FITZGERALD By: Thomas DeBell

     Against Ramsey in the Sectional Final, Bryn Fitzgerald made a huge penalty kick in the game last fall. Fitzgerald is the starting center back for the Jefferson Township Girls soccer team.  


“I started playing soccer when I was three years old. I played travel with a boys team. I have also played club soccer since I was eight.”  Fitzgerald’s inspiration to play soccer came from her brothers because she always wanted to compete with them when growing up. 


Fitzgerald has said it has been hard to train for the season with all the Covid procedures.  The team has to train by themselves a lot. The team has used the quote,  “Tough times never last, but tough people do.”


The team is really determined to make it back to the sectional final game.  But they are also focused on winning their conference.  


The team opens up their season against Morris County Vo Tech.  Their strategies are to combine passes and move the ball up the field. “The strategies are combining passes and moving the ball up the field.  We have to get the ball to our strong offense consisting of Erin Mallory, Jade Babula, and Kate Loncar.”  



Fitzgerald is hoping the penalty kick helps the team change the outcome for her team in 2020 and make them Sectional Champions.

       A way to describe Sarah Leppard is she is very outgoing when you get to know her. However, when you are just getting to know her she is a little timid and shy. She is an amazing athlete.    Is the Ski Industry in the MID Atlantic at Risk?         By Ryan Clarkson             Industries across the world have taken a heavy hit due to the COVID-19 virus, including the ski and snowboard industry. The 2019/2020 season was cut short due to covid, and riders are left wondering what's in store for the winter months. Upcoming snowboarder Colby Clarkson’s progress was put to a halt when resorts shut down in March. Clarkson said, “Toward the end of the season my progress and recognition was really increasing. She is one of the strongest defense players but during one of the most recent games, she got hit in the eye with a ball and immediately had to be taken off the field. This interview was taken over the phone because of the Covid-19.  Jemela Selimi is a starter of three years for the field hockey team and has had a very solid four years experience playing for the JTHS field hockey team. During a tough game against Hackettstown, the Falcons were defending their goal, they had all of their sticks down waiting for a girl on the opposing team to take her free hit. Seeing her winding up for a big hit and BOOM. The ball goes flying straight at Selimi’s face like a bat out of hell. She immediately puts her hand up to her face and everyone can see she scrunches her face like she is in immense pain.
