KEEPING UP WITH THOMAS YOUNG By: Kayleigh Lizotte
Last year, the Freshman boys football team was undefeated all season. Thomas Young is now a punching bag for the Jefferson Falcons Varsity football team. Last Friday night, the JV football team beat West Milford at Jefferson Township High School with a score of 26-6.
“I enjoy playing football, the rush more than anything. Our first game we won against West Milford and the game was crazy.” Young began playing football to just “pass time,” but over the years, he grew to love the sport more than anything!
Young is the punching bag for the Varsity football team, he plays JV as well. The punching bag provides a smaller target than a dummy, encouraging the precise motions necessary to win the individual matchup on the edge. This explains the job of a punching bag and it is the position Young plays. “I am a Sophomore in high school now, I played as a freshman last year and I look forward to spending the rest of my years playing the sport I enjoy so much,” Young states.
Football includes perseverance, hard work, determined mindset, dedication and respect. This can be considered an opinion but explains what is incorporated into football and the standards that need to be met. “Football is an exciting strategic game, when played the right way,” Young believes.
Getting to know your teammates and coaches creates a bond with you and every other player or advisor - you become one big family. You create a bond with any team you’re on. As your bond with that team grows, it pushes you to work together, harder & stronger. Young reflects on this with, “The great thing about football is that after a while you become more than just teammates, you become brothers.”
