ONE OF JEFFERSON'S FIELD HOCKEY TEAM'S STRIVING AND POSITIVE PLAYERS By: Haley Conrad
The Jefferson Township High Schools Field Hockey team has been unstoppable this season so far, being undefeated. One of their outstanding players Allessandra Sanchez has been a truly committed player on the field and puts in the work. How will she manage to work her way up to the top this year?
“I have personal goals for myself during games, I always try to have a positive mindset and focus on what I’m doing on the field for me and for my team to have success,” Sanchez says.
Sanchez stated that it's always important to have a positive mindset during games. This is strongly important for players to stay positive- this will help them exceed.
“During an away game, I was trying to get the ball away from a girl on the opposing team, and her stick came up and hit me in the head,” Sanchez said.
Last year, Sanchez had a concussion, the game she was playing was intense, and it was only the beginning of the season. The concussion had her out for the rest of her season in 2019. From then on she showed up to practices and games even though she was hurt, to give her teammates the support they needed. This year she came back better than ever, as if the concussion never happened.
“I always make sure I have a clear pass up the field, so I’m not sending it up randomly to the other team,” Sanchez says.
As a defensive player it can be a challenge sending the ball back up to the offensive players sometimes. Overall, Sanchez has been doing amazing with it, she finds her teammates who are open and sends the ball to them. During a field hockey game it's important to have goals. An important one is making sure the ball is getting to your teammates with a quick flat pass.
“My best field hockey moment was during a game last year, I got the ball away from the opposing team, and was able to pass it up perfectly to my teammate, so then she was able to run down and score the winning point for our game,” Sanchez says.
Sanchez’s effort and commitment to field hockey is truly amazing. While playing field hockey, she also is an honor roll student in school and plays softball for Jefferson as well. She is an outstanding student inside and out of the classroom.
Last year, the Jefferson Falcons Field Hockey team were conference champions in their division, will all their hard work pay off to get the conference title again this year?
