After a COVID prohibited season, Andrew Grant, a Senior at Jefferson Township High School, prepares for his final lacrosse season with new roles and expectations.

Growing up, Grant has always been athletic, playing three sports as a kid - football, basketball and lacrosse. His passion was always lacrosse. He began playing in second grade and fell in love with the game and hopes to carry on his love through college.

While this season may be different than the rest with new COVID guidelines, Grant is making sure he leaves Jefferson Township High School with a stellar lacrosse season.

Prior to the postponed season, Grant’s Sophomore year, the team went an impressive 15-6, winning the Pooley Division. In that season, Grant tallied four goals and an assist. This year, Grant hopes for more opportunities. Grant has played all year round to prepare and improve on his Sophomore season. “I play travel lacrosse all year round working every week with them preparing for the season.” Grant plays for True Lacrosse out of Sparta. True Lacrosse plays all around the east coast doing tournaments in Maryland and Delaware. Grant plays defense on the club steam but for Jefferson he has to transfer over to midfield which takes a bit of time adapting to a new position according to Grant.

“This year I am going to have a bigger role filling in for Nate Thomson in the offense which is intimidating but also exciting,” Grant said. As a Senior this year, Grant is going to have to improve greatly on the offensive end compared to his Sophomore season following the departure of key pieces such as Thomson and Matt Cappello, to make sure the team has the same success as previous years.

Grant is stepping into leadership role on and off the field. “I do see myself as a leader, Freshman year I won MVP, Sophomore year I was MVP again; I feel you have to be a leader to be MVP. The advice I would give to the underclassmen is don’t be afraid to push yourself because it does not hurt to work harder than everyone else,” Grant stated in our interview.

Following his Senior season, Grant hopes to carry on his lacrosse career into college. Grant tells me, “Currently I am looking at Albright College in Pennsylvania.”
