The Jefferson Township Falcons look to once again return to the playoffs following a breakout year last season. Joe Soares Senior linemen is getting prepared for his final year of high school football. Soares is more than ready for his upcoming season. When asked how the Falcons were looking this season Soares said, “We are coming together… I have been anticipating this for a while now and I am very excited.”

The Falcons open the season on Friday October 2nd against West Milford on Senior Night. When Soares was asked what are the keys to beating West Milford week one he responded, “The defense has to bring the juice (Energy/Excitement) and shut down West Milford’s quarterback. We must get take aways early and the offense has to get the run game going to open up the offensive options.” This is a very detailed description for a lineman; this is one attribute that Soares has that many linemen do not. He is smart and has football smarts.

The Falcons are prone for success. They have many returning players from last year at all positions besides one… quarterback. This is probably the hardest position on the field to replace and Jefferson is taking a different approach towards it. When Soares was asked about it he said, ”It is gonna be interesting having two quarterbacks. Coach Venturino has not had this with his tenure in Jefferson. They will both get equal reps in the games and will introduce a new elect to the offense.” This is going to be exciting to watch - the Falcons are going to be a dangerous team this season

This season has been very odd for everyone who participates in sports. This is because of one reason - Covid-19. Covid has taken a big impact on the sports world as well. There are many new rules and guidelines that must be followed and obeyed by. If not, the sport is at risk of being shut down. When Soares was asked about the new rules and guidelines he stated, “The season started a lot later and it changes the dynamic of game day. Limited fans, players have to spread out, wearing masks, no student section, no locker room.” Overall this must suck as a player but there is no other choice for these young men. Times are very unusual right now and they just have to follow the guidelines and adapt.

Soares is getting excited for the upcoming season. The Falcons are prone for success. The season opens up with senior night and the Falcons are very excited and ready to win for the Seniors on their home opener.
